Our Story

Steward Outdoor School is a private day school for elementary aged students in grades K-8. At Steward we engaging learners through a holistic approach with the teachings of nature as our guide. Young children understand and intuitively know that education is in nature. They yearn to explore and play in the outdoors. They (we) thrive in fresh air, be it the warm summer breezes or in the cool crisp chill of winter. Students marvel over all that Mother Nature has created from the tiniest jungles of moss to the forests of sky-scraping tulip trees. They connect with others while playing in the mud or rolling down hills. They find themselves and a better understanding of the world as a whole when allowed to sit quietly and observe the forests, streams, lakes and fields. They find patterns and poetry, history and community, innovation and inspiration, connections between all living things. Lessons taught in every school began in nature. Learning is innate. It happens fastest and lasts longest when done through play, exploration, and discovery. Steward Outdoor School and the 740 acre campus at Incarnation Center are the perfect place for that learning to transpire.

Steward Outdoor Day School is a program of Incarnation Center, a non-profit 501(c)(3) with a 130+ year legacy of delivering life-changing education, retreat and camping programs to thousands of youth and adults from across the country and around the world each year.
