OUR APPROACH

We believe every day should begin with a positive and welcoming start. Each morning, students greet one another in our morning meeting circle. Inspired by the Responsive Classroom model, our greetings will vary day to day, though favorites will emerge. Students take turns choosing how we greet each other, taking ownership of their place in our learning community. There is always something fun and new, helping students calibrate their emotions and set the tone for the day in a positive way. This learning model teaches everyone how to be welcoming of others, be inclusive, and to be kind. It helps students learn to take turns, listen to classmates’ ideas, assert their own, and respectfully disagree. It builds community by engaging students and giving them a sense of purpose and belonging. Social-Emotional Learning is a key component to the Steward Outdoor Day School.

Our supportive learning community provides a safe environment to practice, reflect, and persist in the core skills that they’ll need to be successful in school and beyond.
