135+ Years of life-changing outdoor education

Steward is a program of Incarnation Camp and Conference Center, an independent nonprofit affiliated with the Episcopal Church and open to all. Incarnation, established in 1886, is the oldest continuously operating camp in America. For 135 years we have delivered life-changing education, recreation, retreat and camping programs to youth and adults from across the country and around the world.

In 1982, Incarnation opened the Bushy Hill Nature Center. Bushy Hill has worked closely with local schools and youth organizations since its inception to provide high-quality educational experiences to children, bringing their classroom lessons to life.

Thirty-five years later, Incarnation took the next step and opened the Steward Outdoor School, a residential, semester school for middle school students. It was the first of its kind, offering a unique and life-changing experience for young teen students.

Hearing the community’s request for an elementary version of Steward, in January, 2021 Incarnation was excited to open the doors to its newest educational endeavor, the Steward Outdoor Day School, a program for elementary school students in grades K-8.
